Clinic Description

The Survivor Representation & Advocacy Clinic (SRAC) forms part of the Thomas & Mack Legal Clinic at the William S. Boyd School of Law. The SRAC represents survivors and those at risk of experiencing traumatic violence in multiple legal contexts. Through a combination of clinic seminars, case, and project work, the SRAC trains student attorneys to become ethical, capable, and confident practicing attorneys.

“The Survivor Representation and Advocacy Clinic was easily the most rewarding and valuable experience I had in law school. I was responsible for gathering evidence, creating direct and cross-examinations, giving arguments, and explaining the process to my client every step of the way. Representing and helping my clients as they go through some of the most difficult times in their lives is why I want to be an attorney. My clients were grateful to have someone with them during the process, and oftentimes I believe our representation made the difference for them in court.”

"The Survivor Representation & Advocacy Clinic gives Boyd students a unique experience to work directly with clients through their entire Temporary Protection Order case. We prepared every TPO hearing as if we were going to trial. We drafted arguments, direct/cross examinations, and had a plan A, B, and sometimes C, ready to go for the day of the hearing.

I enjoyed appearing in court and preparing for trial aspects of the clinic, but what stood out to me the most was getting to know my clients -who were all great people- and having the opportunity to represent them during one of the most difficult times in their lives."
