Clinic Description

The Tenants’ Rights Legal Residency enables law students to provide legal assistance to residents of Clark County who are in danger of facing eviction, losing their homes, and becoming homeless. A joint venture between the Boyd School of Law and the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, the Residency places law students in North Las Vegas, Las Vegas and Henderson Justice Courts where they practice under supervision of Legal Aid attorneys. Authorized for limited practice by the Nevada Supreme Court, student attorneys are involved in all aspects of their cases, from client interviews and counseling to eviction record sealing and appeals. Residency participants develop foundational lawyering skills and judgment, building upon the healthy habits of reflective legal professionals.

"I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to travel to Carson City in March 2025 with Kacee Atherton to present AB 223 to the Nevada State Legislature. This bill sought to amend Nevada's habitability law to expand tenant protections for individuals living in substandard housing conditions. Being able to directly engage with lawmakers and advocate for meaningful legislative change was an incredibly empowering experience. It allowed me to see the intersection of legal advocacy and policy work in action, and reinforced the importance of amplifying the voices of vulnerable communities within government spaces."
