This externship is my favorite and, possibly, the strongest experience on my resume. That is true for two reasons: first, there is no summer job or externship where I have done more substantive, supervised legal work than at UMC. I was able to get so much done in the 12 weeks I worked there, and it was accompanied by excellent guidance and mentorship from the legal staff, especially from James Conway (Assistant GC), Anthony Anguille-Valles (Associate GC), and Stephanie Caccerelli (executive legal assistant). It's important to note that I was never overworked, overburdened, or forgotten by the team, despite the productive externship. Second, the scope of work that I did for UMC and UMC's reputation overall seems to be an attractive portion of my resume to employers. The contract work I did at UMC boosts my transactional repertoire. The litigation experience further boosts my appeal for litigation positions. Moreover, UMC has a long-standing record of serving the Las Vegas community and is intertwined with the local government, which is why I believe it also boosts my appeal for government jobs here in the Las Vegas Valley.

Externed in Summer '25

During my externship, I honed my legal writing and oral advocacy skills. I acquired knowledge regarding jury voir dire techniques and various courtroom procedures. I had the opportunity to negotiate with defense counsel and in pro per defendants, attend police investigation briefings, and observe hearings and trials. Importantly, I gained insight into the significant power prosecutors hold and the responsibility to exercise this power ethically, with fairness and integrity. When I graduate from law school, I intend to pursue a career as a prosecutor. This externship was instrumental in preparing me by providing hands-on experience and increasing my confidence with courtroom procedure. Additionally, I built invaluable relationships with attorneys and judges, which further enriched my externship and expanded my network.
