Any business advice you would give to someone just starting in the profession?

If you dread CLEs, you may be in the wrong area of practice. My career started in administrative law; but I quickly found myself considering signing in and then leaving a full-day CLE. It was then that I thought, “This is my profession. What am I doing if I don’t want to be better at it?” If it is a chore to learn your craft, then consider changing crafts. When you were a child, what did you want to be?

Like many children born to immigrant parents, I translated as they struggled with English. While still very young, I participated in very grown-up conversations. Everything from explaining leases to negotiating car purchases, and more. Each conversation empowered me more. Two legal battles drained my family and led to my becoming a lawyer. How did you first get into the legal profession?

Honestly, my life was at a crossroad and I was ready for a new direction. I viewed my propensity for argument as more of a hobby (or annoyance to my parents) than a career. When UNR President Joe Crowley suggested I join the Boyd Law charter class, it seemed a natural career transition.

What drew you to the UFC and what do you like most about your work there?  

I came across a Global Compliance Coordinator job posting about four and a half years ago, while working for Nevada Ballet Theatre. My externship in Senator Harry Reid’s office handling immigration casework stood out on my resume and led to an interview with the UFC. The rest, as they say, is history.  Now, I know more about aspects of domestic and international immigration law than I ever imagined I would know, but I love it.  Though definitely not very knowledgeable or a fan

We married in Las Vegas in 2009. We each moved here because of job opportunities prior to meeting each other--Adam moving here from Buffalo, NY; and Miriam from Germany. Both are graduates of UNLV’s MBA program--Adam graduating in 2009; Miriam in 2010. Miriam started at Boyd one year after Adam.

I had been accepted to UCLA—even booking a trip to California to visit the campus and find housing. Then, Boyd offered me a very good financial aid/scholarship package.  Being a little older, avoiding law school debt was an important consideration.  So, I visited Boyd.
