William S. Boyd School of Law Announces New Part-Time Evening Hybrid J.D. Program
LAS VEGAS – The William S. Boyd School of Law, consistently ranked as one of the nation's top public law schools, is proud to announce the launch of its new Part-Time Evening Hybrid J.D. program. Set to welcome its inaugural cohort in Fall 2027, this innovative program expands access to legal education across Nevada and beyond, allowing driven individuals to earn their law degree regardless of geographic location.
Rooted in Boyd Law’s core mission of service and innovation, the hybrid track is meticulously designed for working professionals, career changers, and individuals committed to serving their communities. The program delivers the exact same academic rigor, world-class faculty engagement and stellar career outcomes as the traditional J.D. program — all without requiring students to put their lives or careers on hold.
How the Hybrid Program Works
The curriculum balances career, family, and education through a strategic blend of online learning and structured, in-person experiences:
Synchronous Online Learning: Students engage in dynamic, interactive coursework designed for maximum flexibility.
In-Person Experiences: Structured face-to-face requirements include a mandatory Semester Launch, alongside optional Campus Convergence Days focused on networking, community-building, and hands-on learning.
- Full Boyd Experience: Hybrid students retain complete access to the law school's premier legal clinics, externships, career services, and co-curricular activities.
Expanding Access and Impact
"This program represents a new way to earn your J.D.," said Thomas Main, William S. Boyd Professor of Law and Program Director for the Hybrid J.D. Program. "It meets students exactly where they are. By breaking down geographic barriers, we are preparing a new generation of legal professionals to strengthen institutions and widening legal access across the region."
"Boyd Law has a deep-seated mission of public service, and this new hybrid track is the next frontier of that commitment," said Dean Leah Chan Grinvald. "By explicitly designing this program to reach students in Northern Nevada, rural environments, and tribal communities across Western states, we are ensuring that geographic location is no longer a barrier to a toptier legal education. We are proud to expand access to legal education so that these students can cultivate their talents and serve their home communities."
Prospective students living outside the Las Vegas area who seek access to Boyd Law’s purpose-driven training are strongly encouraged to apply when applications open on October 1.
Note: Distance education limits vary by state. Applicants should review the bar eligibility rules for their intended jurisdiction (for example, New York allows up to 15 such credits after 28 J.D. credits are completed).
