With its diverse curriculum, the Boyd School of Law prepares future lawyers for professional careers in a wide range of legal areas, including intellectual property law. The intellectual property (IP) law curriculum has grown over the years to respond to the needs of the technology, entertainment, and gaming industries, and to the increasingly internationalized practice of intellectual property law throughout the United States.
Starting in the fall of 2017, Boyd will offer a concentration in IP law, which will allow students to focus on IP law, benefit from an extended mentorship, and receive recognition of their subject matter concentration upon graduation.

The Boyd IP faculty work closely with the Career Development Office to identify and promote IP-related internships, externships and post-graduate employment opportunities for Boyd students and graduates. Boyd students and graduates routinely secure IP-related positions with local, regional, and national employers. Some of the most popular opportunities for Boyd students and graduates include working with the following:
- Boutique IP law firms and general practice law firms with IP practice groups;
- Federal judges participating in the U.S. federal district court Patent Pilot Program;
- General counsel for gaming, technology, and entertainment companies;
- Federal and state government offices and agencies.
