The Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution successfully wrapped up its Spring 2026 Lunch and Learn Series, a faculty-led initiative designed to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world practice. Throughout the semester, students gathered to explore the diverse frameworks of conflict resolution and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) through the specialized lenses of Boyd Law’s esteemed faculty.

The series launched with Saltman Co-Director and Professor Aparna Polavarapu, who provided a profound deep dive into Restorative Justice, setting a thoughtful tone for the semester.

Following the kickoff, Professor Patrick Chapin shifted the focus to Negotiation. His session on the art and strategy of negotiation offered students practical tools for persuasion and preparation, essential for navigating complex legal conversations.

In the third session, Visiting Assistant Professor Michael Stannard demystified the mechanics of Mediation. His presentation broke down the mediation process, distinguishing the mediator’s role from that of an attorney-advocate, and emphasizing the vital role mediators play in connecting and building rapport with parties to help them develop meaningful agreements.

The series reached its conclusion with an insightful final session led by Saltman Center Co-Director Lydia Nussbaum. Her presentation on Representing & Counseling Clients About ADR moved the conversation toward the attorney-client relationship. Professor Nussbaum talked about how future lawyers can effectively counsel their clients through the various paths of ADR and how mediation skills training transfers into a client-centered approach to lawyering.

By connecting students directly with faculty expertise in such an informal, engaging setting, the Lunch and Learn Series continues to be a cornerstone of the Saltman Center’s mission to cultivate the next generation of dispute resolution experts.
