Last year, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians reached an historic agreement with UNLV and committed $9 million to support course development, faculty, and programs at both the William F. Harrah College of Hospitality and the William S. Boyd School of Law. This gift positions UNLV as a world leader in education and innovation related to tribal gaming operations, law, and economic development and has enabled the law school to create the Indian Nations Gaming & Governance Program

Led by nationally recognized leaders in gaming and tribal governance, this program consists of specialized

Social justice has been part of the core mission of the Boyd School of Law since we opened our doors over 20 years ago. Through the work of its Community Service Program, the Thomas & Mack Legal Clinic, and student organizations whose missions reflect a commitment to civil rights, the law school has embraced its obligation to advocate for substantive change throughout its first two decades. And while social justice and police reform have recently become larger topics of national conversation, many of our students and professors have focused their studies and scholarship on these issues for a

Since we graduated our charter class in 2001, the law school has watched our graduates go on to do remarkable things. Our alums are lawyers, judges, industry executives, and legislators, and all are an asset to their communities both in Nevada and around the country. One of those extraordinary graduates is Dr. Brittnie Watkins, who graduated from Boyd in 2014 with a joint JD and PhD in Educational Psychology, and then returned to the law school in 2017 to receive her LL.M. in Gaming Law and Regulation. After leaving Boyd, Dr. Watkins went on to clerk for Nevada Supreme Court Justice Michael L

More than twenty years ago, the law school was founded with a mission that emphasized the importance of community involvement and service.  Our students leave Boyd with a strong and deep commitment to service and we are always gratified to see our students and faculty leading in efforts to serve the communities where they work and live.

Perhaps nowhere is this commitment to service more evident than in the Thomas and Mack Legal Clinic at Boyd Law. And this week, I am thrilled to announce that the Clark County Commission approved a $500,000 allocation to the UNLV Immigration Clinic. This

Since the law school was founded, Boyd’s Thomas & Mack Legal Clinic has represented and helped members of our community during some of the most difficult of times in their lives. In matters related to immigration, juvenile justice and education, and family advocacy, among others, our students and faculty have supported and assisted individuals who need representation and counsel. The training that our students receive, their advocacy on behalf of Clinic clients, the scholarship of our faculty and students, and our important partnerships with community groups all work toward making our

One of the best parts about welcoming a new class to the law school is learning about all of the interesting things they did before they got here. This year, we have been joined by teachers and nurses, veterans and college athletes, a census worker, and even a park ranger.  The diversity of experiences and perspectives that our students bring to the law school is one of the many things that distinguishes Boyd Law and makes it such a remarkable community. We look forward to seeing what these students accomplish during their time at Boyd. This week, I’d like to share with you some of the

This week, we were so pleased to welcome new students and welcome back returning students to Boyd for what promises to be another interesting year. The start of a new academic year always reminds us how grateful we are to our students and to all of the Boyd community and how much we have missed them – never more so than this past eighteen months. Although this year may again look a little different, with some of our students on campus and others continuing to take classes remotely (and some doing a little bit of both), I know that what makes the Boyd community special – the relationships we

One of the things that I enjoy most as a professor and now as Dean is learning about the many successes of our Boyd alums. There are now more than 2,500 Boyd alumnae serving their communities in Nevada and throughout the country and this week, I would like to congratulate the following Boyd alums on their recent accomplishments:

  • Jennifer Durcan Andrews ('02) was recently appointed to the Pierce County Superior Court by Washington Governor Jay Inslee
  • Paola Armeni ('03) was sworn-in as President-Elect to the Nevada State Bar Board of Governors
  • Yvanna Cancela (’20) was named Chief of Staff
