Today the legal community came together to celebrate the hard work of the class of 2018. I would like to congratulate our newest graduates and extend my thanks to the members of the bar and bench, and especially our commencement speaker Governor Brian Sandoval. On May 11 at 10 a.m., we celebrate all of our J.D. and LL.M. graduates at the 2018 Commencement. It’s one of the most exciting days here at the law school. This year, we are honored to welcome Governor Brian Sandoval as our commencement speaker.
 
This year's faculty remarks will be given by founding faculty member, Professor Terrill Pollman who created our top-ranked legal writing program. Student remarks will be made by full-time J.D. graduate Ryan Saldanha, part-time J.D. graduate Steve Jimenez, and LL.M. graduate R. Scott Rasmussen.

On April 20, the Nevada Law Journal (NLJ) published its third annual White Paper, analyzing the Nevada’s Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act in 2016. It is a ninety-page comprehensive analysis and overview of some of the most important legal issues surrounding consumption of recreational marijuana in Nevada. The White Paper includes appendices and an inclusive, easy to reference table of all the nationwide bills on the same issue. On Monday, April 23 the law school is pleased to host two terrific events. First, we are delighted to welcome California Supreme Court Justice Goodwin Liu who will deliver the annual Judge Lloyd D. George Lecture on the Judicial Process. Justice Liu joined the bench after a distinguished career in private practice and as a law professor at UC Berkeley. The new Workplace Law Program at UNLV Boyd, led by Professor Ruben Garcia and William S. On April 5 at 4 p.m. in the Thomas & Mack Courtroom, the law school will host our annual Robert D. Faiss Lecture on Gaming Law & Policy. This year’s speaker is Dr. Bo Bernhard, Executive Director of the International Gaming Institute. He will deliver a talk: On the Shoulders of Giants: Reflections on the Foundations and Futures of the Study of Gambling. Dr. Bernhard will also be honored as the new Philip G. Earlier this week we learned UNLV Boyd Law ranked 59th out of 194 accredited law schools in the US News & World Report 2019 law school rankings. We moved up three spots from last year, and this marks our highest ranking ever. Additionally, we are delighted that our Lawyering Process program ranked first in the nation among legal writing programs, and our Saltman Center for Dispute Resolution ranked tenth nationally. Next week, as part of the Dean's Distinguished Lecture Series, the law school welcomes Judge Ken Starr who will present a talk on "Investigating the President" at 4 p.m. on March 22 in the Thomas & Mack Moot Courtroom. Judge Starr has had a distinguished career in academia, the law and public service. Judge Starr was named to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit from 1983 to 1989. He was named Solicitor General by President George H. W. Bush, and argued 36 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court from 1989-93. He went on to serve as Independent Counsel for the Department
