UNLV Boyd Law is pleased to host its inaugural alumni U.S. Supreme Court Swearing-In ceremony in Washington D. C., and we invite you to join us June 1-2. The Supreme Court allows only 30 of our graduates to participate, and you must be a member of your State Bar for at least three years. Please see the detailed instructions and information here. Last night, we held the 21st Annual Public Interest Law Association Silver State Auction. This annual event raises funds for law students to do public interest work in the summer. I want to thank PILA President, Alexis Taitel, Vice President, Chelsea Armstrong and Vice President of the Auction, Liz Davenport for making this terrific event happen.

On Friday, UNLV announced a $9 million gift from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians to the College of Hospitality and the Boyd School of Law. This transformative gift will make the university the nation’s leading source for education and innovation related to tribal gaming operations and law.

This gift is the largest interdisciplinary gift the University has ever received. The historic agreement will add unique expertise on tribal gaming to the world’s leading hospitality and gaming program, and add a tribal gaming emphasis to the nation’s only master’s degree program in gaming law.

The law school is extraordinarily grateful to Sam and Lexy Lionel for a gift of $1 million to create a new Reid-Lionel Scholarship Fund in recognition of Senator Harry Reid.

This Saturday, UNLV is hosting the We The People competition, a national civic education program with a long history in Nevada, thanks to the leadership of Justice Elissa Cadish, Judge Phil Pro, and the State Bar of Nevada. As part of the program, Jazmine took part in panels on diversity and inclusion in the legal profession with faculty from Harvard, judges from around the country, and partners at Latham & Watkins and other national law firms.

This week, the law school's Program on Race, Gender, and Policing brought together a panel of law enforcement officials and community activists and scholars for a panel discussion: Police De-Escalation: Reducing Force and Building Community Trust. This panel was covered by the Las Vegas Sun and KTNV. Thank you to the Mob Museum for hosting this event and Professor Frank Rudy Cooper and Professor Addie Rolnick for helping drive this important discussion in our community.
