For the past two days the law school has taken part in #RebelsGive, a 1,957 minute fund raising event held university-wide celebrating the founding of UNLV in 1957. We are fortunate and grateful to have three generous donor challenges, where your gifts will be matched dollar-for-dollar. Please join me in supporting the law school by taking advantage of one of these three terrific challenges here:

$5,000 match from the UNLV Boyd Alumni Board in support of a scholarship endowment set up by the Board. A great way for alums to support future Boyd students.
$10,000 match for the Immigration

This week the full Nevada Supreme Court heard oral argument at the law school, and then engaged in discussion with students and faculty. Terrific opportunities like these provide our students the chance to see the judicial process in action, and I want to thank Chief Justice Mark Gibbons and the Supreme Court for coming to Boyd. We are grateful for the Court’s ongoing support of Nevada’s law school.

I want to thank Professor Ruben Garcia and Professor Ann McGinley, directors of the UNLV Workplace Law Program, for bringing the 14th Annual Colloquium On Scholarship in Employment and Labor

This new initiative honors a trailblazer in our community, and promotes diversity and access to legal education at Nevada’s law school. The Justice Douglas PreLaw Fellowship Program, which begins next summer, will offer undergraduate students a week-long immersive educational experience on the UNLV campus with simulated law school classes, networking opportunities with legal professionals, and peer-to-peer advice from current law school students. I encourage you to learn more about this program, as well as consider

This week, we were delighted to host two fantastic events.

Senator Harry Reid, Distinguished Fellow in Law and Policy, brought together a panel of scholars, civil rights advocates, and student leaders for a discussion on Islam in America. I invite you to learn more about the topics discussed by clicking here to read an article from The Nevada Independent, as well as clicking here for a recap in the Las Vegas Review-Journal. We look forward to working with the Senator on more of these timely discussions.

I would also like to thank Professor Lori Johnson for chairing and organizing the Classic

Yesterday we launched our new Law and Leadership Program under the direction of Distinguished Fellow Governor Brian Sandoval, one of the most successful governors in Nevada history. It was an extraordinary day of learning from Nevada's leaders and past chief executives of fellow western states, and leading members of the state and federal bench. Congratulations to Senator Nicole Cannizzaro, UNLV Boyd alumna and the first female Senate Majority Leader in Nevada history, who received the inaugural Governor Brian Sandoval Award for Public Service. My sincere appreciation to Governor Steve Sisolak
