Kathryn M. Stanchi joins the faculty as the E.L. Cord Professor of Law. Professor Stanchi teaches writing courses, including legal research and writing, appellate advocacy, and two courses of her own creation, advanced persuasive strategies and drafting judicial opinions for social justice. On May 17 at 10 a.m., the UNLV Boyd School of Law will hold our 2019 Commencement Ceremony. We look forward to recognizing our graduates and all they have accomplished. This year, we are honored to welcome U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen as our commencement speaker.This year's faculty remarks will be given by Ann C. McGinley, William S. Boyd Professor of Law. Student remarks will be made by full-time J.D. graduate Alexis Duecker and part-time J.D. graduate Carmen Gilbert.

I am excited to share some great news coming out of Boyd Nation:

  • Brenda Weksler '02 has been appointed to fill a U.S. Magistrate seat here in Las Vegas, and this marks our first alum to join the Federal District Court. Honored as the 2018 William S. Boyd School of Law Alumna of the Year, Brenda is currently an Assistant Federal Public Defender in the trial unit where she has represented indigent clients since 2004. Prior to joining the Federal Public Defender, she clerked for the Honorable Kathy Hardcastle at the Eighth Judicial District Court.

This week, Nevada's legal community came together to launch the new UNLV Boyd School of Law Justice Michael L. Douglas PreLaw Fellowship Program. This new initiative not only honors a trailblazer in our community, but will promote diversity and access to legal education at Nevada’s law school.

We are delighted to welcome Judge Carlos Bea from the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit on Monday, April 22. Judge Bea will deliver our annual Judge Lloyd D. George Lecture on the Judicial Process at noon with a talk titled "Appellate Fact-Finding and the Abuse of Discretion Standard: The Allocation of Judicial Power Between Trial and Appellate Courts." This talk honors Judge Lloyd George, a long-time Nevada federal judge and mentor to generations of law students and fellow judges.

On April 11th at 4pm, Senator Harry Reid, with the UNLV Boyd School of Law, will bring to campus an important discussion of Anti-Semitism in America. UNLV is pleased to welcome nationally recognized authors Dr. Deborah E. Lipstadt from Emory University and Jonathan Weisman of the New York Times.

Dr. Deborah Lipstadt is the Dorot Professor of Modern Jewish History and Holocaust Studies at Emory University and the author of Antisemitism: Here and Now. Her landmark book Denying the Holocaust: The Growing Assault on Truth and Memory earned national acclaim, and her book History on Trial: My Day
